In the UK, property owners are generally responsible for drains within their boundary lines that serve only their property.

If a drainage pipe lies outside your boundary, or is shared with a neighbour, it is classed as a lateral drain or shared sewer. Since October 2011, responsibility for these sewers is held by the local water authority (typically Thames Water or Southern Water in our region).

The difference comes down to who uses the pipes and where they are placed:

Most blockages are entirely preventable with standard home care. We recommend keeping these tips in mind:

• In the Kitchen: Avoid pouring fats, oils, and grease (FOG) down the sink. They solidify as they cool, leading to severe build-ups. Use a container to catch oil instead, and install sink strainers to catch food particles.
• In the Bathroom: Hair and soap scum are the major causes of clogged baths and sinks. Ensure you have physical hair traps in place and clear them regularly.
• Toilets: Stick to the "3 Ps" rule (Pee, Paper, and Poo). Wet wipes, sanitary products, cotton buds, and dental floss should always be binned—even if labelled "flushable."

No-dig drain repair, also known as trenchless pipe repair or drain lining, is a modern method of repairing underground pipes without the disruption of excavation.

We insert a flexible, resin-saturated sleeve into the damaged pipe. Once positioned correctly inside the damaged section, we inflate the sleeve and allow the resin to cure. This creates a highly durable, watertight "pipe within a pipe" that seals cracks and prevents root intrusion.
